When I think of the term "Dubliners" I think even to my time between university schools, spent studying English literature and Irish to complete my studies. Joyce was one of the authors present as you can imagine, not only with "The Dubliners", but also with "The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" and the most popular "Ulysses." But it is not my intention to write about literature and perhaps it is better to return to the topic of the post to continue my personal mission began on post " Living and Working in Dublin."
My quick introduction only serves to explain how people, the Dubliners, just like the rest of the things found on this island where I work and live, have always had fantastic side dishes, a little fairy to me of a young Italian student.
say how a people it certainly is a moment-fetched, remember that much for what I write is always and only related to my own experience. Far from wanting to judge and categorize people and then report what you had first hand experience.
Since my arrival, the Irish Dubliners or better, I have always been presented, and still use the expression I feel like super "friendly", "warm" and "comfortable." I can confirm that the attitude that I found is that usually people who relate to you just as I happened to relate to people in Spain when I found there are in Scotland or when I have lived, and just like me has happened in other countries, even here in Dublin I had the pleasure of having many friends among the "local". This
my condition prevents me from then to go beyond saying that the street, in shops, offices, people respond and interact with me using the same style of courtesy which have fortunately been used in other places outside Italy. There have been some cases of people are rude and not very friendly but this can hardly be a characteristic of a people, but to single individuals.
The tendency to make friends with expats, who share my same situation here is not due to my tendency asociality particular, we tengo a precisarlo. La maggior parte, se non tutte le persone che conosco e ho conosciuto qui a Dublino si trovano nella mia stessa condizione e guarda un pò le due o tre persone che conosco che invece hanno una situazione differente di solito hanno anche un/a partner locale.
I dublinesi per tanto, vorrei sfatare un altro mito, non si gettano tra le vostre braccia al passare, ma come in ogni altro posto sono ben lieti di farsi gli affari loro e stare con i loro connazionali. Diversa è la storia al pub, nota area di ritrovo in cui si mettono da parte inibizioni, dopo le prime 4 pinte, e si inizia a parlare anche con le sedie.
Altra storia invece sono i famosi " knackers ", tanto famosi da meritarsi articoli e definitions on the most diverse sites. It is mostly local bands that kids are far from receiving an education from their parents, probably too young (the rate of baby mothers here is skyrocketing due to such factors as the inability to have an abortion on the island and the benefits that the state continues to donate generously to these user groups) or too drunk to keep up, running around in mini gang combination of all colors.
Since I live in Dublin because I learned to be careful not to cross the pavement of these little " leprechaun" that unlike those mentioned in the books I read do not have pots of gold but sometimes a few rotten eggs pretty boxcutter below to make agreeable jokes to passersby. Last
myth to be dispelled from my point of view is that there is a substantial difference between the British drinkers would be "dangerous" as opposed to those Irish who were merely "cronies". To be honest I'm not so sure and while I never had the displeasure of an Englishman conoscre not drunk I am satisfied of the scenes that occur systematically in the evening in the city.
The puddles of vomit here and there, the zombies who stagger through the streets at any age (minors are not exempt) and absurd actions like the one that brought a subject that dare not define in any other way than a crazy and degenerate in prey to too much alcohol, to kill a co-worker coming out of a party in Dublin 4 area, I do not own pleasure much less laugh.
Ultimately as these are Irish? Well I would say that everyone will have the answer only after having lived for some time here, do not apply to rentals of 15 days or weekends to study the past to see the Guinness factory . Only a few years spent here rubbing elbows with them will tell you, better than me and any other person, as they are.
